Formerly the Gauntlet, this course, along with her sister courses the Members Club, Players Club and the new Reserve Club, is located almost an hour north of Myrtle Beach at St. James Plantation in Southport, North Carolina. Set amid Carolina pines and live oaks, the course plays along the coastal salt marshes and the Intracoastal Waterway. It features Dye bulkheads, forced carries over water, pot bunkering, multi-level fairways and contoured greens. Their clubhouse was re-modeled in 2006, and the course drainage was also improved significantly.
IMPORTANT: All four St. James Plantation courses are now semi-private. Some outside play is available, but you must call the St. James courses to ascertain how to book tee times there.
Note: St. James Plantation is located in Southport, NC and has four good golf courses – including this the best one of the four - but it really is a pain to get to unless you are staying north of, or close to, the North Carolina/South Carolina Stateline.
