The City of Myrtle Beach took over the operation of this typical military base golf course when the Air Force flew the coop in 1993, and it appears that they haven’t spent a dime on it since then. From the Federal Government to local government, now that’s a real recipe for success isn’t it? The course has narrow, tree-lined fairways, plenty of water and unusually hard greens for the Myrtle Beach area. Since it adjoins Myrtle Beach International Airport, you may want to check the flight schedules, or just bring along some earplugs, just in case. The City was going to sell this dog, but couldn’t find a sucker. Now, with a new airport terminal in the works, it may become a rental car parking lot, or some other industrial property any of which would be an improvement.
Warning: The industrial plant adjacent to this course has been found to have been contaminating the groundwater and soil in the neighborhood for decades, so if you don’t want to find yourself glowing in the dark, play with two gloves, don’t use the ball-washers and absolutely, positively DON’T DRINK THE WATER!
