This was always the best of the original four courses that were at this facility, with consistently some of the best greens in town. It features multiple tees, elevated tees, wide landing areas, contoured fairways, double fairways, grass bunkers, moderate amount of sand, strategically placed water, fast, elevated and even a double green serving two holes. In 1994 Golf Digest named it as one of “The Top 10 Best New Resort Courses in America,” and in 1997 they named the 14th hole there as one of “The Best 18 Holes You Can Play.” Wild Wing Plantation was sold to a group of developers including some of the owners of Arrowhead Country Club. They closed the Falcon, Hummingbird and Wood Stork courses, and recently created a jury-rigged 9-holer they call the Hummingbird 9. They do have a small putting green and a so-so driving range. Sadly, this facility is now only a shadow of it’s former self. Recently, the Myrtle Beach National Company took over the management, so things should start improving there rather quickly.
